Clifton “Andrew” Kilpatrick founded Freight Scout in 2021. He is a native of North Georgia, born and raised in Gainesville, and number 4 in the line-up of 6 siblings. He has numerous nieces and nephews who mean the world to him and longtime friends who could never be replaced. Andrew attended Berry College in Rome, GA, majoring in chemistry and switching to business.
Working for Pepsi, then as an assistant golf pro, and doing various other jobs, Andrew knew that he needed to find a solid career path, and so did his dad, Billy! Over Sunday dinner, Billy spoke to Andrew about trucking and how he could build on his experiences and make a respectable living. After all, Billy was living proof that when things slowed down in other work areas, he never missed a beat or his family a meal when driving a truck.
After accepting a position with Turbo Logistics, now known as Syfan Logistics, he discovered his passion for the brokerage and transportation industry. “Turbo was one of the best places to work. They took the time to teach you the right way to do things. I still use the same practices learned there, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity they gave me.”
Andrew then went on to work at several other transportation brokerages, where he continued to gain experience and learned the true value of relationships. “I still remember my dad saying, people do business with people they like,” which really stuck with me.
While working at these various brokerages, and out of pure frustration, he came up with his invention, the 10-20 Seal – a tracker like no other with no reverse logistics. I remember telling my dad about my idea. As a former driver, dispatcher, broker, and owner-operator moving expedited freight back in the day, having to stop every 2-3 hours to call in their location from the truck or the side of the road – they just wanted to drive. He did it all and was on both sides of the telephone making and answering those calls – Billy thought it was brilliant!
